Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Feel the breath travel through your body. In Sarah’s morning meditation session I drew with my eyes closed and my mind tuned into every movement I made.
Painting during the first lockdown in London was like a deep breath for me. It was an intuitive process fundamental to being aware of my movements across big surfaces to apply paint and medium on to paper and canvas. It was an inhaling of research and an exhaling of the change that occurred in my subconscious onto the painting surface.
Lately, taking deep breaths is taking more effort and so is painting. I am back in India, and the air quality index in my city has been severely hazardous for the past few weeks. Today was better as precipitation brought the pollution down and the sky looked blue after weeks of being a hazy grey. Tomorrow is a new day, and I am looking forward to discovering new leads and finding inspiration.
